Good Friday is more than a day of remembrance; it is a revelation of love in its fullest expression. It unveils a God who loves us so deeply that His love surpasses what our human minds can comprehend and our hearts can contain.
Who can truly fathom such a love – a love that embraces us despite all our faults and imperfections? “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8). On the cross, Jesus endured unimaginable suffering – physical agony, betrayal, the piercing nails, the crown of thorns, the weight of our sins, and even the anguish of separation from the Father. Yet He bore it all willingly, out of love for us.
Who can fully grasp the Father’s heart, whose steadfast love reaches to the heavens (Psalm 36:5) and whose faithfulness endures through all generations? (Psalm 100:5) The cross stands as the ultimate display of a love so great that He took our place, suffered in our stead, and opened the way for our salvation.
Good Friday is the ultimate expression of that love – sacrificial, unwavering, and complete. It reveals a love the world cannot offer: beyond understanding, yet deeply felt. As we go deeper, we realise that we are not merely recipients of His love – we are immersed in it, so full and overflowing that it reaches others and points them to Jesus. We see a love beyond words, mercy beyond measure and grace beyond comprehension – a love that not only embraces but also transforms.
It gently convicts, penetrates the depths of our hearts, and works within us for our good and for His glory. It meets us in our brokenness, yet refuses to leave us unchanged. It restores, renews and reminds us that though we are in this world, we are not of it. We are on a journey of faith, called to walk not by sight, but by trusting in the One who gave His life for us. It is a journey of surrender: dying to self and living for Christ, with our hearts continually shaped by His truth and His love.
“Search my heart, O God, and remove every idol – anything that takes Your rightful place. Purify my desires and realign my heart to seek You above all else. Only You, Lord Jesus, are worthy of all praise and worship. Thank You for Your endless mercy, Your patience, and Your unfailing love. As I fix my eyes on the cross, I am reminded of what truly matters – not the temporary, but the eternal. Not my will, but Yours be done. And as I walk this path, may my life reflect You more and more until the world no longer sees me, but sees Jesus in me.
I often declare that I love You but what is my love for You? At times, it feels fleeting, like the morning mist – here for a moment, and then gone. Yet Your love for me is constant, unwavering, and faithful. Even when my heart falters, Yours never does. Even when my love falls short, Yours remains full, complete and unchanging.
So, Lord, teach me to love You – not with words alone, but with a surrendered heart. Let my love be rooted in obedience, refined through trials, and sustained by Your grace. For in the end, it is not the strength of my love that holds me but the steadfastness of Yours. All that I am, all that I have, I lay before You. He must increase, but I must decrease (John 3:30). In Jesus’ name, Amen.
On Good Friday, this love is most clearly revealed when Jesus laid down His life to redeem us. Not because we are worthy, but because He is love. The cross stands as the ultimate proof that His love is eternal, sacrificial and deeply personal. Our confidence is not in the strength of our love for Him, but in the finished work of Christ where mercy was poured out, grace was given, and we are forever redeemed. May our hearts live in awe of His love.
All glory be to Christ!
