Life of Christ – Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Written Assignment 3 – Write a testimony on
“Your Experience of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit”

I was in my teens when I first heard of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. With little knowledge but much enthusiasm, I responded to altar calls, hoping to receive something I wasn’t sure of but convinced that it was good for me. I was told to mimic the sounds but somehow imitating people’s tongues created doubts and there was no peace within me.

Thus, I ceased seeking until I learned of its empowerment and by God’s grace, I was eventually baptised in the Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord for such an amazing experience! It was the day of Pentecost. I recalled preparing myself that day, fasted and went to church expecting. There was no altar call. No one laid hands on me and I didn’t have to imitate any sounds. The tongue just flowed naturally while I was worshipping God. Such unspeakable joy as the Spirit gave me utterance. It felt so right with peace reigning in my heart – an awestruck moment to cherish forever! Like a child receiving a gift, I was beaming and bursting with inner excitement.

How wonderful it is to be able to praise and worship God beyond the limit of our vocabulary (Acts 10:46). Because it’s God-given, our prayers are undoubtedly aligned to His will (Romans 8:27). This beautiful gift will not only help us to intercede for others but also edify us (1 Corinthians 14:4). Glory to God in the highest!
