Written Assignment 2 – Write a brief report (200 words) on
“What might upset Jesus if He visited a Church Service today”
A church service should be God-centered – unified in the truth and glorify Him in one accord (Galatians 3:28). One of the reasons for church service is to worship God where Christ is to be magnified and exalted.
Jesus will be upset if we do not worship from the heart. Such worship is empty and completely in vain. Regardless of what denomination, irreverent attitudes and actions will hinder us from worshipping in spirit and truth (John 4:24). Worship and prayer are not about looking “spiritual”. Jesus doesn’t want us to be hypocrites like the Pharisees who desire self-glorification. Failing to honour God and be Spirit led will displease Him.
Teachings of the church that fail to adhere to Biblical doctrines will grieve Jesus; so does giving with ulterior motives, be it offering or thanksgiving. We need to give cheerfully and offer sacrifices of praise to God with a grateful heart (Hebrews 13:15). Be careful with our attitude lest it robs us of the peace and joy in Christ.
Let us strive to worship God by obeying Him and His word, crowning Him Lord in our daily lives. Truly then will He smile down at us while we soak in His presence.
