Helmet of Salvation

Ephesians 6:17 (ESV)  and take the helmet of salvation

The 5th piece of armour is the Roman helmet. The Helmet of Salvation is protection for the head as it is one of the most vulnerable area. The enemy targets the mind in spiritual warfare. Doubts fly through the air in the same way as a sword attacks the head. Symbolically, to put on the Helmet of Salvation means to protect our minds from the enemy. Through this helmet of salvation, we can “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). Truly, the only way to win the battle in your mind is to let Jesus transform your thinking.

Without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation, all armour is useless. Without salvation, there is no victory. When we have a sure knowledge of our salvation, we will not be moved by Satan’s deceptions. When we are certain that we are in Christ with our sins forgiven, we will have a peace that nothing can disturb.

The inner witness of the Spirit that we are God’s children protects a person’s mind as a helmet protects the head (Romans 8:16). We need to remind ourselves of our identity in Christ. We can face every demonic attack knowing that nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39). Whatever trial or hardship, persecution, famine, danger or whatever life throws at us, we know that we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us (Romans 8:37).

How to put on the Helmet of Salvation?

Stand on the conviction of our salvationSalvation is the hope for our soul which enable us the power to take every thought captive and keep our thoughts on Jesus. When we know without a doubt that we are going to heaven because of what Christ did on the cross, not even death can defeat us. When we face extremely dark times, our salvation will light the way and carry us home.

Set our minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2)Keep an eternal perspective. Keeping our eyes on that can help us weather the storms of life. The salvation Jesus purchased for us cannot share the place of importance in our hearts with earthly things. When pleasing the Lord is our supreme delight, we eliminate many of Satan’s lures and render his evil suggestions powerless.

Renew our minds with God’s WordRomans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Our minds are battlefields. Feed ourselves constantly with God’s Word and immerse our minds in the truth that our salvation is complete and does not rely on us.  It is a finished work that God has accomplished for us. We must allow God’s truth to continually wash away the filth, lies and confusion of the world, and to adopt God’s perspective in our minds.
