Just because someone has gone down the wrong road – the broad road – doesn’t mean they are doomed to finish there. By God’s grace, there is always the opportunity to turn off and take the other road – the narrow road – that leads to life and to heaven. This turning is made possible by the great rescue plan our Lord Jesus Christ initiated when He came to earth. Through His death and resurrection, He opened the way for us to move from one road to the other.
The idea that evil will somehow be refined or redeemed to the point that there could be a marriage between heaven and hell is preposterous, and believing such a thing is a tragic error. The cross of Christ is the only answer. Because of what Jesus had done, no one goes to hell just because they are bad, and no one goes to heaven just because they are good. We each end up in one of those two eternal destinations based on one thing: Our relationship with Jesus Christ.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road
that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate
and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
