Finding treasure in trash…

(See opportunity when others see calamity)

The trash of humanity was dumped on Jesus. His disciples deserted Him and fled. He bore it all – our sins, our shame, our brokenness, all our trash. It was the darkest night in history: No answers from heaven, no help from the people, no loyalty from His friends. God didn’t take the cup from Him, because it was the Father’s will for Jesus to die for us. And yet, even in the silence, even in abandonment, Jesus saw the reason to hope.

What an example for us to follow. Though He was left alone and His world collapsed into stillness, He did not lose sight of the Father. In all His sufferings, Jesus was able to:

  • See good in the bad
  • See purpose in the pain and
  • See God’s presence in the problem

So we, too, must learn to see differently, see good in every bad, and to believe that all things work together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28). The solution is to change our perspective. God can correct our vision. Let us praise Him, even in the darkest night.
